All cleaned up
Since its inception, the Virginia Waste Tire Program has documented nearly 1,200 tire dumps dating from before the start of the recycling program in 1993. That includes 185 in the Roanoke region, all of which have been cleaned up as of March, either by the program or landowners. All but a handful of those piles are mapped here. Click on the blue circles with numbers to reveal more markers.

A note on the data: Because of vague or partial addresses, in some cases the markers are in the general vicinity of a tire pile location, not the precise location.
