In an effort to help the YMCA’s Smith Mountain Lake branch raise money to pay off its debt, continue regular operating hours and expand services for its members, The Willard Companies is initiating a new fundraising initiative at Smith Mountain Building Supply on Virginia 122 at Westlake Towne Center.
Effective Oct . 1 through Dec . 31, Smith Mountain Building Supply will donate 50 percent of all in-store retail profits to the Smith Mountain Lake YMCA. The plan applies to profits on all retail, hardware, paint, tools and front-store items. Contractor business materials are excluded.
“This is the first time our company has organized this type of fundraising platform,” said Brian Muelenaer, vice president of operations at Smith Mountain Building Supply.“It is our hope that our support will continue to allow the Smith Mountain Lake YMCA to offer vital programs to the local community.”
The store also will offer customers the opportunity to make additional donations to the SML YMCA when checking out.
“We are delighted to receive the support of Smith Mountain Building Supply. It is a clear endorsement of the importance of the YMCA in our community and supports our new direction at Smith Mountain Lake,” said Jim Currie, the new chief executive officer for the Franklin County YMCA, which oversees the SML branch.
The discount is one of several fundraising efforts that are being undertaken to help the YMCA. On Sept. 27, “Sold! - A Night at the Auction” will feature silent and live auctions of artwork and other donated items.
On Oct. 19, The Willard Companies will sponsor Oktoberfest at Westlake Towne Center and a 5K trail race, with all proceeds benefiting the debt-reduction campaign.
