For those of us who are mindful of the less privileged and handicapped , I would like to draw attention to the wildlife surrounding us.

On a recent morning, I noticed two crows pecking the ice in my neighbor’s birdbath. In the subfreezing temperatures, the sight pulled at my heartstrings. I began calling some of my friends, hoping that even a few of us could make a difference in helping some to survive.

After a few phone calls, I realized that the newspaper would be an even better way of getting word out to help innumerable creatures with this basic need for survival.

Yes, the water will re freeze, but there could be a temporary reprieve for their very serious problem.

I feel blessed that this awareness came simply by chance and it is my belief that many of us will make a difference.
