Because he’s part of a traveling musical, there’s no doubt Tony d’Alelio can cut a rug.
But in “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” the 2012 Cave Spring High School graduate actually portrays a rug. The show stops at the Roanoke Performing Arts Theatre at the Roanoke Civic Center at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday as part of “Broadway in Roanoke.”
“‘Beauty’ was his first audition after high school and he booked the job!” wrote civic center spokeswoman Viki Arias.
OK, so the name of d’Alelio’s character is actually “Carpet.” But as anyone familiar with Disney’s version of the classic fairy tale knows, all the household objects in the Beast’s castle talk, walk, sing and dance, so odds are good d’Alelio won’t just lie there. According to his Twitter account, the part involves tumbling and cartwheels.
A review posted Friday on the Tennessee website The Williamson Source even said that d’Alelio “stole the show for a bit with his acrobatics and energy.”
In a grateful reply on Twitter, the actor called himself “one lucky carpet.”
