Blues guitarist Chris Duarte returns to Virginia for a show at Martinsville's Rives Theatre on Saturday.
Saturday, April 6, 2013
Chris Duarte is a prototypical Stratocaster master who, after many years of touring and recording, still plays with fire and precision.
Duarte, whose accolades include fourth place in Guitar Player magazine’s 1995 poll for best blues guitarist — Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and B.B. King beat him out — returns to Virginia tonight for a show at Martinsville’s Rives Theatre.
Those who hit the show can expect to be mesmerized with a display of speed, skill and stamina, not to mention a sense for musical chops as opposed to pure shred. And Duarte’s backing band is tick-tight behind him.
The act, which played recently at Roanoke’s Blue 5 Restaurant, is touring behind Duarte’s latest release, “My Soul Alone. ” While his songwriting style on the record is classic blues-rock in the Stevie Ray Vaughan style, his playing, vocals and harmonies largely bear his own stamp.
