Mother Nature was a beast at the inaugural Franklin County Strings & Spirits Festival .
When it wasn’t pouring down sheets of rain on June 30, 2012, it was stultifyingly hot and humid. That kept the crowd rather small, even if the acoustic music was good and the libations were refreshing.
After that, organizers decided to schedule the event earlier, so this year it is happening on Saturday. Unfortunately for them, that is also the same date as the Blue Ridge Music Festival at Salem Football Stadium.
But while the Salem event will be loaded with pop-country favorites, Strings & Spirits will bring something for a different set of tastes — local and regional acoustic/Americana music, along with craft beer and regional wine.
Roanoke-based singer/songwriter Corey Hunley , a Franklin County native, and Charlottesville band Yankee Dixie are at the top of the bill.
While they and other acts perform, patrons can check out beer from Devil’s Backbone Brewing Co., the new Sunken City Brewing Co. and others. AmRhein’s Winery, Brooks Mill Winery and Blue Ridge Vineyard will provide the fermented grape.
