A man who was caught shoplifting in Radford early Saturday morning showed a store clerk a gun, police say.

A release from Radford police said a store employee at the 7-Eleven at 302 Tyler Ave. in Radford confronted a man for shoplifting about 2 a.m.

The store employee recovered the shoplifted item in the parking lot, but the man pulled up his shirt and displayed the handle of a gun in his waistband when asked to come inside and wait for police.

The release said the store employee went back inside without further incident, but police are looking for the man who displayed the weapon.

He is described as a black male between 20 and 25 years old. According to the release, he was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, grey pants, tennis shoes and a red hat. At the time of the incident, he was with three other men.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Radford Police Department at 731-5040.
