Bedford County deputies arrested two men on a pair of malicious wounding charges Thursday night.
Deputies were called to the 1100 block of East Lynchburg-Salem Turnpike in response to a fight between Sherwood G. Blake, 45, and Carson R. Elkins, also 45.
Lt. Kyle Williams said Elkins told deputies the fight started after Blake threw a rock at his vehicle. After a confrontation, the two men came to blows.
In a news release, Williams said Elkins claimed he was hit by a rock and a baseball bat. Blake told deputies he was hit with a wooden axe handle, authorities said.
Both men were sent to Bedford Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released.
Deputies arrested the two men and took them to Blue Ridge Regional Jail, where they are being held without bond.
Elkins faces one count of malicious wounding. Blake was charged with malicious wounding, throwing missiles at a vehicle and property damage.
Authorities said they also have obtained a warrant for a third man, Calvin Blake, though they did not say how he was involved in the scuffle.
Anyone with information about this case, including the whereabouts of Calvin Blake, is asked to call the Bedford County Sheriff's Office at 586-7827.
