Roanoke police arrested a 19-year-old Roanoke man Tuesday night in connection to an assault in which a woman’s head was badly cut.

Police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson said officers at 2:05 p.m. were called to the 3400 block of Birchlawn Avenue where they found a 22-year-old woman with the injury.

Johnson said police arrested a suspect, Jamel Kwame Tucker, at about 8:10 p.m. Tuesday night. He is charged with malicious wounding.

Johnson said the woman and her attacker are acquaintances. The victim was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
