LEXINGTON -- A Virginia city full of Civil War history has been named among the best small places to make a visit in 2013.
The honor is contained in Smithsonian magazine's April issue. The competition included small towns and cities with a population less than 15,000.
In its homage to Lexington, Smithsonian points out attractions that include Washington and Lee University, VMI, the Stonewall Jackson House and more. The city was among 20 named nationally.
This is not the first time Lexington has caught the attention of a national magazine. In 2009 it was among the coolest small towns in American, as judged by Budget Travel.
