A small fire burned part of Mill Mountain on Friday night.
Roanoke Fire-EMS spokeswoman Tiffany Bradbury said in a news release that a brush fire burned part of the wooded area of Mill Mountain. Firefighters estimated that the burned land was about one-quarter the size of a football field.
Bradbury said the fire was difficult to reach because it was on a steep incline between two trails off Prospect Road, which leads to the Discovery Center and Mill Mountain Zoo.
Bradbury said there was no danger to the zoo or nearby homes.
The cause of the fire is being investigated. About 8:45 p.m., Bradbury's release said the fire was out and crews were finishing taking care of hot spots.
