Michelet Saint Louis
Wednesday, April 24, 2013
A jury this week decided that a Roanoke man should spend nearly 50 years in prison after it found him guilty of four counts of incest.
Michelet Saint Louis, who will turn 48 on Friday, was arrested in May 2011 after a relative accused him of repeatedly sexually assaulting her several years earlier. Roanoke Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Joshua Dietz said the assaults began in 2003, when the victim was in middle school, and said they continued until about 2005 or 2006. The victim reported the incidents in 2009.
Jurors in Saint Louis' two-day trial, which wrapped up Tuesday, recommended a sentence of 12 years to serve on each count, or 48 years total, and a $100,000 fine.
Judge William Broadhurst will determine Saint Louis' final sentence in this case July 8. An additional count of animate object sexual penetration, involving another relative, remains active against Saint Louis, according to online court records. Dietz said a determination in that case will be made by the time Saint Louis is sentenced in July.
The case initially went before a jury in February, when it ended in a mistrial over an evidentiary dispute, but it was not dismissed.
