Rockbridge County emergency crews located four people who had been canoeing on the James River on Thursday evening, according to spokesman Robert Foresman.
After the four canoeists did not arrive at their destination on the river on time, a rescue team was called to search for them around 7:30 p.m. A little more than an hour later the group was discovered at a boat landing in Snowden; their canoe had tipped over in rough water.
Foresman said all four people were able to walk away from the scene, but were cold and being checked out by emergency services.
