A motorcycle driver has been charged after an accident that closed two lanes of traffic on Interstate 81 north Friday afternoon.
The Virginia State Police said the driver was charged with following to close. He was sent to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash, near Salem at mile marker 138.6 in Roanoke County, closed both lanes of northbound traffic for about a half-hour.
Traffic was backed up about 8 miles at 4:45 p.m., according to the Virginia Department of Transportation, but the lanes were reopened shortly after.
