An early morning fire in Roanoke County is being investigated as arson.
Roanoke County Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Jennifer Conley Sexton said the fire was at the building in the 1800 block of Thompson Memorial Drive that houses the Renegade Ink tattoo parlor. She said it caused an estimated $60,000 in damage.
Crews responded to the building about 12:45 a.m. Friday. Firefighters found flames coming from two sides of the building. They contained the blaze in about an hour and a half. One firefighter was sent to a hospital with heat exhaustion. He was treated and released.
Sexton said a vacant apartment on the top floor of the building sustained extensive heat and smoke damage, while Renegade Ink is facing mostly water damage.
She said the investigation is ongoing and could not release further details about how the fire started.
