The body of Desia Rae George, 33, of Fries, missing since April 15, was found Thursday in a creek alongside Brush Creek Road in Grayson County.
The Carroll County Sheriff's Department received a call at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday reporting that a cellphone that belonged to George had been found by a boy who was trimming weeds around a pond.
Deputies from the Grayson County and Carroll County sheriffs' department responded to the scene.
Carroll Sheriff J.B. Gardner said deputies were walking along the road when one of his investigators, Brandon Edwards, found the body.
The body was only about 5 or 6 feet off the hardtop in a deep gully.
Grayson Sheriff Richard Vaughan said the body was badly decomposed and was sent to the state medical examiner's office in Roanoke, where dental records were used to identify the body today.
Vaughan said the cause of death had not been determined and is being investigated further.
