Roanoke police have released surveillance video from a shooting Sunday at a 7-Eleven in the hopes of finding people who might know more about the incident.
Six people were injured in the early morning gunfire, Detective P.B. Caldwell said at a news conference Friday afternoon.
Police patrolling in the area heard gunfire and responded to the convenience store in the 3600 block of Williamson Road Northwest about 2:36 a.m., department spokeswoman Aisha Johnson said in an earlier news release.
The video released represents “partial clips … which are deemed points of interest” in the shooting, Caldwell said.
The video begins with two men getting in a fight in the store’s parking lot. A crowd forms as “several more words are exchanged,” Caldwell said.
Several times, the two men can be seen talking to each other, and at times shoving one another.
The chaotic video then appears to show at least three people firing weapons, including the two men from the earlier fight, Caldwell said. “Numerous shots” are fired as the crowd quickly disperses and several cars race from the parking lot, he said.
Six people were injured by gunshot wounds or grazes, Caldwell said, and several cars were found with bullet holes. Police had earlier said only five people were injured, but updated the tally Friday.
Caldwell said it still wasn’t clear what started the fight. No one has been arrested in the incident.
Investigators released several photographs from other cameras at the store, including one that shows a man apparently holding a gun in his right hand. He’s wearing lime green shorts, a gray and lime green shirt, and a gray and lime green baseball cap.
Other photos show three other “persons of interest”: a man wearing a red shirt and brown shorts; a man described as having “a heavy build,” wearing black shorts and a black shirt; and a man described as having “a thin build,” wearing black pants and a black tank top.
Anyone with information, — including anyone who was at the 7-Eleven before or after the shooting — is asked to call Roanoke police at 853-5959 or Crime Line at 344-8500.
