A man injured in an early morning boating wreck Sunday remain ed in critical condition Friday.
James Downes, 39, of Christiansburg was listed in critical condition at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Friday afternoon, according to hospital spokesman Eric Earnhart.
Officials have not identified the five people injured in the two-boat collision on Claytor Lake, but Sabrina Downes, 36, said it was her husband who was left hospitalized.
Four others, including Sabrina Downes and Breeanna Downes, 13, suffered minor injuries, officials and witnesses have said.
The wreck happened shortly before 1:50 a.m. when a bass boat struck the rear end of a pontoon boat about 200 yards upstream from the Boy Scouts of America aquatic base, according to Troy Phillips, a conservation officer with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
Phillips said Wednesday that no charges had been filed in the collision and that he expected the investigation to last into next week. He couldn’t immediately be reached Friday afternoon.
