Roanoke police are investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday night.
Roanoke police responded to a report of an assault in the 1200 block of 16th Street shortly before 11:30 p.m., according to a news release from Roanoke police Capt. Monti Lee.
The release said officers found Carter Waid Worsley, 53, of Roanoke on the porch of a residence with a gunshot wound to his leg.
Police determined that Worsley came to the residence in an attempt to speak with Thea Kay Porter, 56, and Porter advised Worsley to leave as he stood at the front door, the news release said.
Worsley then opened the screen door and entered the residence, the release said. He did not assault or threaten Porter but did not leave when asked.
Porter got a handgun and fired one shot at Worsley, striking him in the leg, according to the release.
Worsley was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. He was then arrested and taken to the Roanoke City Jail and charged with breaking and entering and violation of a protective order, the release said.
Porter was arrested and charged with unlawful wounding and is being held at the Roanoke City Jail, the release said.
