A Bedford County woman was airlifted from the scene of a single-vehicle wreck Saturday night after she lost control of her car and struck a bridge in the western part of the county.
Katherine Hayslett, 58, was in good condition at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Sunday morning, said hospital spokesman Eric Earnhart.
Hayslett was westbound on Virginia 24 (Stewartsville Road) near Creekbed Drive shortly after 8 p.m. when she lost control of her 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser and drifted off the right side of the road, according to Virginia State Police Sgt. J.P. Deckard.
She overcorrected, crossed into opposing traffic and struck the left side of the bridge over West Fork Beaverdam Creek, Deckard said.
Hayslett was not wearing her seat belt and had to be extricated from her car, Deckard said.
Charges are pending in the crash, he said.
