A person was killed Tuesday in an industrial accident at a recycling plant in Roanoke County.
Police Lt. Jimmy Chapman said officers were called to Recycling and Disposal Solutions in the 7700 block of Enon Road about 1 p.m. Tuesday .
Chapman said a 53-year-old male employee was killed in an industrial accident. He said police believe the man slipped and fell into a recycling baler machine, which compacts aluminum cans, plastic bottles, cardboard and other recycled items. The man was dead by the time police arrived. Police are not treating the incident as a crime, Chapman said.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration personnel were at the scene. The plant closed after the incident.
Police are not releasing the name of the man killed until they notify the next of kin.
The plant did not issue any statement Tuesday afternoon. The incident is still under investigation.
