Two Bedford men were flown to the hospital Friday morning following a head-on crash on Virginia 43.
Brian Boyd Clyburn, 36, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tracker about 8:20 a.m. on Virginia 43 about two miles north of Virginia 122 near Bedford when the SUV crossed the center line, police said.
The vehicle struck a 2007 Ford Taurus driven by Lloyd Houston Blake, 79, head-on, said Sgt. Bob Carpentieri of the Virginia State Police.
The Chevrolet flipped onto its side. The Ford sedan was pushed into an embankment off the road.
Clyburn and Blake were flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with injuries. A Virginia State Police trooper on the scene, G.D. Musgrove, said Friday morning both were in critical condition.
Clyburn was charged with reckless driving. He was not wearing a seat belt; Blake was.
The two were the only people in their respective vehicles, and both had to be extricated, Musgrove said.
