Franklin County officials are investigating after they discovered suspected human remains following a suspicious vehicle fire.
Sheriff’s office Lt. Phillip Young said Monday that what are believed to be remains were found Sunday at 3:18 p.m. in the 2000 block of Philpott Road, near the Henry County line, after a passer-by looking at land for sale spotted the charred vehicle in a remote area and called authorities.
Young said the automobile was severely burned, and investigators are still working to determine what kind of vehicle it was. He said officials are working to identify the remains and investigate the fire.
Officials are asking anyone who smelled smoke or saw a fire in the area of Philpott Road in the last two weeks to call the sheriff’s office at 483-6601.
