Franklin County officials have confirmed that the remains found after a suspicious vehicle fire were human, according to sheriff’s office Lt. Phillip Young.
Young said that remains were found at 3:18 p.m. Sunday in the 2000 block of Philpott Road, near the Henry County line, after a passer-by looking at land for sale spotted the charred vehicle in a remote area and called authorities.
He said the automobile was severely burned, and investigators are still working to determine what kind of vehicle it was. Officials are still working to identify the remains and investigate the fire.
They are asking anyone who smelled smoke or saw a fire in the area of Philpott Road in the last two weeks to call the sheriff’s office at 483-6601.
