Heyo, a Blacksburg social media company, may get to showcase its Facebook fan page customization tool at the South by Southwest Accelerator Competition next month in Austin, Texas.
The event, aka SXSW, is an annual showcase of music, independent films and emerging technologies.
SXSW organizers picked Heyo, formerly Lujure, as an alternate competitor in the event’s interactive technology judging competition, which drew 500 applicant companies and saw 70 picked as presenters or alternates.
While Heyo won’t be on stage unless a selected competitor can’t present, CEO Nathan Latka said even alternate status brings benefits, such as a mention on the event site. Latka said he is jazzed to see Heyo associated “with the same stage that Twitter launched from at an event that is recognized globally.”
Twitter became one of the most visited sites on the web, thanks in part to exposure at the 2007 SXSW, its founders have said.
