Backstreets Pizza and Grill, which has been serving Blacksburg residents and Virginia Tech students since 1984, soon will close.

General Manager Eric Sturm said the restaurant will close its doors April 6.

The South Main Street restaurant has been for sale since last summer and is currently under contract, Sturm said. He believes another restaurant will be moving into the space but said he could not comment further.

"It's gotten to the point where it's time to move on and I want to do other things," Sturm said. "There's not really anyone ready to step into this position and take over."

Sturm said that he and owner Steve Andrews believed it would take at least a year or two to sell the business. The process, Sturm said, went a little quicker than he thought.

He said employees have been notified and he is trying to help them find other work.
