The Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia has named a Bedford company and a Roanoke company finalists for the annual Tayloe Murphy Resilience Awards, which recognize outstanding businesses.
The finalists are Blue Ridge Optics in Bedford, which supplies optics and thin film coatings for laser systems, and the Roanoke education software company Interactive Achievement.
Thirteen finalists have been summoned to an Oct. 15 gathering at the school at which winners are scheduled to be announced. The Tayloe Murphy award honors growing companies that display "a dogged entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to community in areas facing high unemployment, high poverty and low entrepreneurial activity," the event sponsor said in a news release.
