Flying Mouse Brewery will tap into an incentive grant program offered through Botetourt County.
Supervisors on Tuesday approved a $35,000 grant, payable over five years, to the startup brewery, as long as the owners, Frank and Debbie Moeller of Troutville, keep current with their taxes and make headway on a promise to invest $528,000.
The craft brewery will be located in the former Architectural Concrete Products manufacturing site near Troutville. In July, supervisors turned down the Moellers’ rezoning request that would have allowed them to offer services to through-hikers on the nearby Appalachian Trail. Action, though, was delayed until late October on whether Flying Mouse Brewery will be permitted to host concerts and expand its brewing operation. Some neighbors along Valley View Road expressed concern that alcohol would not mix well with their narrow, twisting road.
A grand opening is scheduled for Oct. 19, prior to action on the rezoning request.
