The Salem School Board named two new principals during a school board meeting Tuesday, including a new leader for Salem High School.
According to a news release, the board approved Scott Habeeb, currently an assistant principal at the high school, as its new principal. The board also named Debbie Carroll, an assistant principal at West Salem Elementary School, as the new principal at that school. Both will begin their new positions July 1, according to the release.
Both will fill the vacancies left by retiring principals. Salem Principal John Hall will retire at the end of the school year after decades on the job. West Salem Principal Trula Byington is also retiring this school year after being at the school’s helm for the last three years and serving for decades in Salem City Schools.
“Mrs. Carroll and Mr. Habeeb are both proven educators who have emerged as distinguished leaders during their careers in Salem City Schools,” Superintendent Alan Seibert said in a statement. “Their development and preparation for these opportunities can be attributed to many factors including the mentorship and guidance they have been given by the terrific principals who have facilitated their growth as leaders.”
