A 6-year-old boy who died after an incident at a Pulaski County day care facility was remembered Friday as his elementary school classroom’s computer expert.
Darin Conner was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital on Tuesday morning after the incident occurred at Busy B’s Day Care Center on Lee Highway, Pulaski County Sheriff Jim Davis has said.
A woman who identified herself as the owner of the facility but chose not to disclose her name said a hanging cubby fell, injuring Darin.
The child was pronounced dead shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday at LewisGale Hospital Pulaski, Davis has said.
Darin was a student at Pulaski Elementary School, and attended the child care center before the start of the school day, according to Davis.
On Friday, Jan Booker, Darin’s first grade teacher, shared memories of the little boy.
“Darin was everyone’s friend. He loved his friends and they loved him. He was our classroom’s computer expert.
“Darin loved his school and greeted me everyday with his impish grin. His spirit and his smile never failed to brighten my day.
“He will always be the light of our room,” Booker wrote. “Our hearts are broken, but Darin’s smile lives on.”
On Facebook, a post identified as Darin’s mother Sandy’s read:
“I would like to take a minute and say thank you to my wonderful family/friends for the outpouring of love and support during this unimaginable yet so very real time. I never known how it feels to have your heart broken into a million pieces. I have been praying for my precious son in Heaven as well as son here on Earth and my entire family, including my Busy B’s family. With that being said I will also pray for those whom are choosing to point fingers and spread rumors. He is MY son it happened to MY family and if you have nothing better to do than to badmouth a situation that does not directly or emotionally involve you then why do you get off facebook and go hug your child(ren) bc no one is promised the next min day year...RIP MY SWEET SWEET DARIN MATTHEW.”
According to Darin’s obituary in Friday’s newspaper, his funeral will be today in Dublin. The family requests memorials be made to the National Bank, care of Darin Conner Memorial Fund, 250 Washington Ave., Pulaski, VA 24301.
