A woman who went missing while hiking in the Jefferson National Forest was found Wednesday.
Valinda Parker, 59, was hiking the Appalachian Trail when she got lost, Giles County Sheriff Morgan Millirons said. She had been missing since Tuesday evening, but crews found her about 1 p.m. Wednesday on the Groundhog Trail, which stems from the Appalachian Trail and crosses the border into West Virginia. Parker is OK and did not require medical attention, Millirons said. It was not immediately clear where Parker lives or how long she had been on the trail.
Sheriff's deputies and members of the Giles County rescue squad and Pembroke Fire Department spent Wednesday morning searching for Parker in the Big Stony Creek area.
