My husband and I live on the section of Oliver Road between Preston Avenue and Frontier Avenue in Roanoke. The past couple of months, our side of the street has been undergoing the installation of sidewalks. The sidewalks are complete; however, there is a lot of other work to be finished.
The problem is the sidewalks look terrible and are a safety hazard to our family and friends. They are a safety hazard to the entire street, especially our elderly neighbors.
The appearance from our home is equally awful. The sidewalks are elevated above the street; from our stoop, we have to step up to the sidewalk. Once we are on the sidewalk, we have to step down several times to get onto the street.
The curb doesn't even match the street. I'm not sure we will ever be able to park on the street again. We cannot even mow our bank.
I want to know who is responsible for this problem. I want to know who finds this acceptable. Is this how our tax dollars are spent? Please take a drive on Oliver Road and take a look.
