Morgan Griffith is regularly allotted commentary space in the Floyd Press; I would like to address some points he noted recently.
Why should the IRS not investigate organizations seeking nonprofit status? Are we to accept carte blanche that all organizations wish to comply with our tax codes? Should we not require that all organizations abide by the statutes of regulations like 501(c)(4)?
The American Action Network is a case in point: Its own information describes it as an “action tank” that will create, encourage and promote center-right policies.
A couple of years ago, it took in more than $27 million, spending most of it on election ads. Since we were in a contested state, we all saw some of them. Were we educated? Were we entertained? Were we lied to? Were we being directed?
That money could have been taxed and directed toward a more universally accepted type of education. Griffith should work for collecting that.
This organization is political, and it is just one of many on both sides of this fence.
There must be some issue that Griffith can promote for those of us who actually live and work in the 9th Congressional District besides deregulating everything.
