Michael Hiltzik’s commentary in the Sept. 15 Horizon (“Health law’s ailments can be cured”) presented a number of solid arguments in favor of a single-payer health care system over both the current system and the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare).
One he barely mentioned, however, is the burden that providing health care to their employees lays on American companies.
American businesses small and large are disadvantaged compared to their overseas counterparts by having to pay for covering their employees’ health care.
Relieving them of this burden would make them more competitive in a global marketplace.
