PULASKI — Raysheron Michel had three hits, including a solo home run and a RBI double, and Jesus Ugueto cracked a two-run homer as the Mariners scored more than enough runs for starter Edwin Diaz in a 7-1 win over the Bluefield Blue Jays at Calfee Park.
Jeffrey Zimmerman also had two base hits for Pulaski.
Dawel Lugo accounted for the only Blue Jays run with a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning.
Diaz (1-0) pitched five scoreless innings, allowing only three hits and striking out five.
Michel’s RBI double was the big hit in Pulaski’s three-run third inning. Zimmerman and Franklin Diaz led off the inning with back-to-back singles and Zimmerman came around to score on Michel’s double. Diaz and Michel then scored on consecutive groundouts.
The Mariners put two more runs on the board in the fourth on Ugueto’s home run.
Zimmerman singled home Ugueto in the sixth and Pulaski added another run in the seventh on Michel’s solo shot.
The Mariners begin a three-game set with the Danville Braves starting tonight at 7:00 p.m.
