ZEBULON, N.C. - Mike Augliera pitched eight innings for Salem and scattered four hits with no runs as the visiting Salem Red Sox stunted the Carolina Mudcats 3-0 on Thursday.
The first hit of the game came off the bat of Deven Marrero in the first inning. Then pitcher Joseph Colon balked, advancing Marrero.
The next pitch, Kuery De La Cruz hit a double to score Marrero, putting the Sox up 1-0.
In the top of the third, Henry Ramos recorded his 11th double of the year. Marrero was then hit by a pitch and, two batters later, Brandon Jacobs drove both runners in with a double.
The remainder of the game was scoreless as both teams began to play well defensively.
Augliera (6-5) did not walk a batter and finished with seven strikeouts. Robby Scott earned his first Salem save with a perfect ninth.
ON DECK: Salem sends Henry Owens (6-3, 2.91) to the mound to face Nick Pasquale (0-5, 5.14) and the Mudcats today in Zebulon. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m.
