PRINCETON, W.Va. — Jeffrey Zimmerman drove in two runs with a single and his third home run of the season and Luiz Gohara (1-1) pitched five shutout innings allowing only three hits as the Pulaski Mariners held off the host Princeton Rays 4-2 at Hunnicutt Field.
The Mariners got off to a hot start as Ian Miller doubled to open the game and Zimmerman drove him home two batters later. Tyler Smith then tripled and drove Zimmerman home to stake Pulaski to a 2-0 lead.
Zimmerman’s solo home run in the top of the third pushed the lead to 3-0 before the Rays got to Mariners’ reliever Leoncio Munoz. Back-to-back doubles from Spencer Edwards and Bralin Jackson cut the lead to 3-1.
Both teams pushed across one run in the ninth, but closer Luiz Pineda got two pop outs and a strikeout to end the game and record his first save of the
