PULASKI — Jesus Ugueto homered and drove in three runs as the Mariners scored five runs in the seventh to break open a close game and defeat the Burlington Royals 7-1 at Calfee Park Wednesday night.
Pulaski opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as Ugueto drove in Aaron Barbosa on a groundout, and Wilton Martinez lined an RBI double to right scoring Tyler Smith.
Burlington’s lone run came via a solo home run by Sam Bates in the second.
The Mariners teed off on Burlington reliever Ben Tomchick in the bottom of the seventh as Dan Kemp and Luke Guarnaccia each doubled home a run to make the score 4-1. Guarnaccia scored on a double steal when Royals’ catcher Chad Johnson committed a throwing error. Ugueto followed with his two-run homer to provide the final margin.
Edwin Diaz (4-1) pitched six strong innings, allowing only a run on five hits and four strikeouts to earn the win.
Pulaski begins a three-game series tonight with the Greeneville Astros at 7 p.m.
