CONWAY, S.C. — Devin Brown returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and De’Angelo Henderson followed less than two minutes later with a 49-yard run for a score as undefeated Coastal Carolina broke away from VMI with a 22-point third quarter in a 66-27 Big South victory on Saturday night.
VMI (1-7, 0-3) played without injured starting quarterback Eric Kordenbrock. But A.J. Augustine had the Keydets in the game for a half, throwing a 28-yard scoring pass to Samuel Patterson to get VMI within 30-24 seven seconds before halftime.
The Chanticleers (8-0, 3-0), also without their injured starting quarterback, Alex Ross, had no problem piling up points. Three QBs played for CCU with Michael Church seeing most of the action. He was 12-of-15 passing for 164 yards and three touchdowns, two going to Matt Hazel. Lorenzo Taliaferro rushed for 126 yards and a score. CCU had 502 yards total offense.
Shenandoah 36, Hampden-Sydney 35
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY — Andrew Smith converted on a two-point conversion run to lift Hornets (3-4,2-2) past the Tigers (5-2, 3-1).
Smith rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries and caught six passes for 95 yards and one TD.
Nash Nance led the Tigers, going 20 for 37 for 328 yards and two TDs. Holton Walker caught six passes for 132 yards and one touchdown.
Maryville (Tenn.) 53, Ferrum 14
MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Evan Pittenger completed 14-of-18 passing for 289 yards and four touchdowns as the Scots (7-1) defeated the Panthers (2-5).
Maryville built a 26-3 lead after Ed Johnson caught a 19 yard touchdown pass from Pittenger.
W&L 42, Bridgewater 13
LEXINGTON — Marshall Hollerith rushed for 93 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries as the Generals (4-3, 2-2) defeated the Eagles (3-4, 0-4). The Generals had 372 yards of offense, all on the ground.
Nick Lombardo rushed for 92 yards on 14 carries. Jeff Schulte sealed the W&L win with a 40 yard interception return for a touchdown.
Southern Virginia 44, Bluefield 18
BUENA VISTA — Andy Jones completed 11 of 18 passes for 115 yards and three touchdowns as the Knights (5-2) defeated Bluefield (0-8).
Steven Scott rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Michael Goering caught four passes for 39 yards and two touchdowns.
Towson 48, Richmond 32
RICHMOND — Terrance West rushed for 275 yards and four touchdowns as the Tigers (8-1, 4-1) defeated the Spiders (2-6, 0-4).
Towson quarterback Peter Athens completed 16 of 21 passes for 228 yards and one touchdown.
Michael Strauss led the Spiders completing 28 of 38 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns. Salem graduate Stephen Barnette snagged 11 of Strauss’s passes for 148 yards.
William & Mary 17, JMU 7
WILLIAMSBURG — Tre McBride caught 10 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown as the 19th-ranked Tribe (5-3,2-2) overcame the visiting Dukes (5-3,2-2).
Dae’Quan Scott caught a Michael Birdsong pass early in the second quarter to give the Dukes the lead, but William & Mary dominated the rest of the game.
After a John Carpenter field goal in the second half, McBride snared his touchdown from Brent Caprio as the Tribe gained the lead.
Jared Velasquez returned an interception 90 yards to seal the victory for William and Mary with seven minutes remaining.
Liberty 24, G.-Webb 0
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Cave Spring graduate Josh Woodrum ran for a touchdown and threw for another, as the Flames (4-4, 1-1) shut out the Runnin’ Bulldogs (4-4, 0-2).
Woodrum went 18 for 31 for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Desmond Rice rushed for 80 yards on 19 carries and teammate Clifton Richardson had 36 yards on nine carries.
ODU 27, Norfolk State 24
NORFOLK — Jarod Brown kicked a field goal as time expired to push the Monarchs (5-3) past the rival Spartans (2-6).
Taylor Heinicke threw for 325 yards and three touchdowns, going 26 for 44. Teammate Gerard Johnson rushed for 101 yards on 17 carries and Antonio Vaughan caught six passes for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Hampton 30, Del. State 7
HAMPTON — Jorrian Washington rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries as the Pirates (3-5) defeated the Hornets (3-5).
Byran Bailey went 9 of 16 for 112 yards and a touchdown.
Cory Murphy went 19 of 37 for 160 yards and a touchdown for Delaware State.
Christopher Newport 42, Greensboro 13
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Daquan Davis rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries as the Captains (5-2, 4-0) defeated the Pride (2-6, 1-3).
Rudy Rudolph caught two passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Guilford 28, R.-Macon 21
GREENSBORO — Matt Pawlowski completed 21 of 29 passes for 394 yards and four touchdowns as the Quakers (5-2, 4-0) beat the Yellow Jackets (5-2, 3-1).
Adam Smith caught seven Pawlowski passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns.

WASHINGTON, DC. — The Wasps (4-3, 1-3) defeated the Cardinals (4-3, 1-3) to end a three game losing streak.
The Wasps hung on to win as Catholic’s late rally came short after a missed 49-yard field goal as time expired.

Virginia State 34, Lincoln (Pa.) 14
LINCOLN, Pa. — Jordan Anderson rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries as the Trojans (7-1) defeated Lincoln (1-7).
Tarian Ayres completed 8 of 15 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown.
Edward Waters 38, Apprentice 21
NEWPORT NEWS — Taron Williams completed 14 of 23 passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 93 yards on 22 carries as the Tigers (1-7) defeated the Builders (1-6).
Ray Dukes caught nine passes for 77 yards and a touchdown and totaled 284 all-purpose yards for Edward Waters.
Joseph Hodge rushed for 97 yards and one TD on 29 carries for Apprentice.
