CHATHAM - Hargrave Military opened up a four-run lead in the first inning and held off a seventh inning rally from North Cross to win 6-5 in Virginia Independent Conference baseball Thursday.
Hargrave (9-3, 6-0) led 5-0 until North Cross scored three in the sixth inning, thanks in part to a two-run single by Edwin Saunders. Jayson Lamanca added an RBI-single to pull the Raiders within two.
Hargrave added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning and Tanner McCoy hit a two-run single in the seventh to pull North Cross (7-6, 4-4) within one.
Matt Doughty led North Cross with three hits and also pitched six innings, striking out five and scattering six hits.
Ryan Castellano led Hargrave with two RBIs and Nick Houck, of Roanoke, had one RBI.
Caleb Mishue struck out 13 and gave up 10 hits in the win.
MOUNTAIN EMPIRE DISTRICT
Grayson County 7, Graham 3
BLUEFIELD - Spencer Roberts had two hits and knocked in two runs to lead the Blue Devils (4-0, 7-3).
Matthew Cornett was 1 for 3 with two RBIs, and combined with Max Rogers and Dylan Isom to hold the G-Men (0-4, 4-6) to six hits.
James River 23, Bath County 2, 5 inn.
HOT SPRINGS - Keith Yancey hit a grand slam to highlight the Knights' five-inning win.
Bayard Stevens added a three-run double and Kaleb Gunter had a two-run home run for James River (6-6, 3-0).
Ray Miller hit a double and scored a run for Bath County (0-4, 0-4).
Cody Dean struck out three over three innings for the win.
THREE RIVERS DISTRICT
Glenvar 5, Radford 0
Kevin Steele pitched a complete game, striking out eight and allowing three hits as the Highlanders defeated Radford (6-6, 2-3).
Chace Wilson had two hits for Glenvar (4-7,2-2). Josh Watts and Troy Mitchell each had an RBI single in the fifth inning.
Auburn 13, George Wythe 4
RINER - Erik Gaynor pitched six innings, allowing four hits, striking out 12 and walking three as Auburn downed George Wythe.
Gaynor also had two hits, including a double and four RBIs for the Eagles (9-3, 3-2). Caleb Link and Cody Akers each had two run home runs.
Cade Holliday pitched three innings for the Maroons (2-10, 2-2), allowing four hits, striking out two and walking two. Tanner Combs had two hits, including a double and an RBI, and Jon Deters had two hits.
Dayspring Christian 8, Eastern Montgomery 7
SHAWSVILLE - Evan Graybill led the Lions to a comeback win, holding the Mustangs scoreless after Eastern Montgomery took a 7-2 lead in the second inning.
At the plate Graybill had three hits and three RBIs. Joel Vest also had three hits and knocked in three for Dayspring Christian (2-5).
Allen Burtick had two hits and two RBIs for Eastern Montgomery (1-9).
Northside 11, Patrick Henry 9, 8 inn.
J.D. Mundy laced an RBI single to score Joseph Spencer in the top of the 8th inning for the game-winning run as the Vikings beat the Patriots in eight innings.
Spencer had three singles and two runs scored while Jeremy Ragland had three doubles and three RBIs for Northside (8-6).
Jake Wright led Patrick Henry (3-11) with three singles and three RBIs while Britt Dunnavant had two singles and a double.
VACA TRIANGLE MEET
PEMBROKE - Blake Vaughan took medalist honors and led Roanoke Valley Christian to a team win with a 194 at par-36 Castle Rock Golf Club.
Dayspring Christian was second with 224 and Parkway Christian shot 244.
BLUE RIDGE DISTRICT
Alleghany 5, Rockbridge County 1
Patrick Burns scored four goals to lead the Mountaineers over the Wildcats.
Milliyon Fasseha recorded a goal and an assist for Alleghany (7-2-1, 3-1).
Luis Ramirez scored the lone goal for Rockbridge County (6-4, 2-2) on a penalty kick.
Noah Green made four saves in net for Alleghany while Clay Penney made two saves for Rockbridge.
BLUE RIDGE DISTRICT
Rockbridge County 5, Alleghany 3
LOW MOOR - Clair Seckner scored two goals and Anna Bowker score one as Rockbridge County took a 4-0 halftime lead.
Goal keeper Mikayla Morgan made five saves for the Wildcats (2-6, 0-4).
Alleghany fell to 1-6, 0-4.
Liberty 1, Rustburg 0
LYNCHBURG - Laura Garbarini scored off a centering feed with less than a minute remaining to lift the Minettes over the Red Devils.
Jillian Blackburn made two saves for Liberty (6-3, 6-2).
Brittany Gallahan made 13 saves for Rustburg (1-9, 1-6).
Dayspring Christian 7, Faith Christian School 0
BLACKSBURG - Leah Hairfield scored four goals as Dayspring Christian opened a 5-0 lead at halftime and went on to win.
Johannah Buehrer, Morgan Saulfley and Sara Albano scored. Goalkeeper Elisa Fowler made three saves for Dayspring (10-1, 7-1).
Katie Sayers made 16 saves for the Warriors (2-3, 1-2).
Blacksburg 2, Franklin County 1
ROCKY MOUNT - Morgan Evans and Cassidy McRorie each scored for the Bruins, who led 1-0 at halftime.
Goal keeper Laura Albert made one save for Blacksburg (6-2).
Sydney Varney scored the only goal for the Eagles (5-4-1). Keeper Kayla Wright made seven saves.
North Cross 5, Roanoke Catholic 0
Lissa Smith scored a pair of goals to help the Raiders to a home win over the Celtics.
Paxton Helmer, Lynsey Barker and India Helmer added a goal each for North Cross (11-0-1).
Sarah Maurer and Gussie Revercomb combined for nine saves for the Raiders. Marin Guilfoyle had seven saves for the Celtics (2-6).
SWVA Home School 10, Grace Christian 2
STAUNTON - Lilly Smith scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Conquerors.
Megan Crews and Zoe Campbell had two goals each for Southwest Virginia Home School (8-2). Jaquelyn Chick, Cassie Snyder and Sarah Snyder also scored for the Conquerors, who led 5-0 at the half.
Sarah Hrovat and Kelsey Fitzgerald had a goal each for Grace Christian.
MOUNTAIN EMPIRE DISTRICT
Grayson County 16, Galax 1
INDEPENDENCE - Sarah Eller had three hits and three RBIs to lead Grayson County (3-0, 8-2) to its third consecutive big win.
Karly Morris added three RBIs on two hits and Clair Circle had two RBIs on two hits for the Blue Devils.
Eller and Grace Circle combined to hold the Maroon Tide (1-2, 2-9) to four hits.
James River 15, Bath County 0
HOT SPRINGS - Casie Hill had two hits and knocked in three runs to lead a Knights onslaught at the plate.
Alexis Breeding had two doubles and two RBIs, and Kayla Hannah, Jenna Sprinkle, Jessica Simmons and Payton Hatcher also added two hits apiece.
Abby Tincher pitched a complete game for James River (3-0, 7-4), holding the Chargers (0-3, 0-6) to three hits while striking out five.
Chilhowie 19, Marion 2, 5 inn.
MARION - Jenson Sturgill had two doubles and four RBIs and Emily Smarr had three hits and two RBIs as Chilhowie scored nine runs in the fifth inning.
Mary Luttrell also had a double and three RBIs for Chilhowie (5-7).
Jordan Williams had two hits, including a double, for Marion (3-7).
Floyd County 8, Christiansburg 1
FLOYD - Karlee Pendleton pitched a complete game, allowing only one run on three hits and striking out six as the Buffaloes stopped the Blue Demons.
Morgan Cox had a double and three RBIs while Ashley Gallimore and Aimee Royal each chipped in RBI singles for Floyd County (10-1).
Makennah Hellman had two hits, including an RBI double, for Christiansburg (4-7).
Temple Christian 18, Roanoke Valley Christian 1
Ashley Lyle had one hit and drove in the only run as Roanoke Valley Christian (3-5) lost to visiting Temple Christian (2-0). Brittany Galop pitched three innings, striking out three, walked two and gave up 10 hits.
Wednesday's late games
Lord Botetourt 5, Franklin County 4
ROCKY MOUNT - Ryan Oliver hit a pair of two-run home runs to lift the Cavaliers over the Eagles on Wednesday night.
Zack Kelly hit an RBI-double for Botetourt (10-2) in the first inning and Oliver delivered his homers in the second and sixth.
Franklin County (5-7) scored four in the bottom of the seventh, but Oliver struck out a batter with the tying-run on second base to end the game.
Ryan Peevy led the Eagles with two RBIs.
Galax 8, Narrows 0
NARROWS - Junior Espinosa had two goals for the Maroon Tide as they defeated the Green Wave Wednesday night.
Tanner Edwards, Edgar Guzman, Andre Medina, Jordan Sykes, Isaac Tracy, and Louise Turcious all had a goal for Galax (10-0, 3-0 Mountain Empire District).
Narrows fell to 0-9, 0-4.
James River 3, Lord Botetourt 1
DALEVILLE - James River scored two goals in the second half to rally in nondistrict play Wednesday night.
Kendall Moyer and Valentina Donnini each scored unassisted for the Knights (6-3). The third goal was an own goal.
Lord Botetourt (6-3) led 1-0 at the half on a goal made by Hannah Stuart.
