OFFENSE: EDGE TERRAPINS
C.J. Brown, who missed the entire 2012 season following knee surgery, is a dual-threat quarterback who is the Terps' second-leading rusher. Whether Brown or understudy Caleb Rowe starts today, they have two dangerous receivers in Stefon Diggs, who torched the Cavaliers last year, and Deon Long. Brandon Ross has rushed for 331 yards after leading the team with 390 yards in 2012.
DEFENSE: EDGE CAVALIERS
Maryland is clearly suspect after giving up 63 points and 614 yards last Saturday at Florida State, but the Terps will be facing a UVa team that has given up 59 points to Oregon and 48 to Ball State. Cavaliers' quarterback David Watford has been interception-prone, but defensive back Dexter McDougle, who had three of the Terrapins' eight picks, is lost for the season with a separated shoulder.
SPECIAL TEAMS: EDGE TERRAPINS
Virginia doesn't have anybody to match Diggs, who returned the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown when the teams met last year in Charlottesville. Diggs' longest kickoff return this year went for 40 yards but Maryland still ranks 27th nationally in that category, as compared to a Cavalier unit that is 104th. Maryland's Brad Craddock is 10 for 12 on field goals.
INTANGIBLES: EDGE TERRAPINS
Virginia has gone 3-0 in its last three trips to Byrd Stadium, almost invariably as the underdog. It's hard to fathom a 100-point Maryland turnaround between a 37-0 victory over West Virginia on Sept. 21 and a 63-0 loss with an extra week to prepare for Florida State, but the latter game was 14-0 with under a minute left in the first half. Brown did not play in the second half.
PREDICTION: Maryland 27, Virginia 13
