PUBLIC NOTICE NOTICE OF VOLUNTARY REMEDIATION Pursuant to the Virginia Voluntary Remediation Regulations, Virginia Administrative Code section 9VAC20-160-120, Walker Machine and Foundry Corporation, 2415 Russell Avenue, SW, Roanoke City, Virginia 24015, hereby provides notice of voluntary remediation at the following site: Walker Machine and Foundry Corporation 2415 Russell Avenue, SW, Roanoke City, Virginia 24015 VRP Number VRP01043 Walker Machine and Foundry Corporation conducted operations as an iron foundry on the subject site for a period of approximately 100 years. On a portion of the subject property of approximately one-half (1/2) acre, limited metals, including iron, antimony, and manganese have been found in soils as have limited organic chemicals at levels which may pose risk to human health or the environment. In order to address potential environmental risks, Walker Machine and Foundry Corporation applied to and was deemed eligible to participate in the Voluntary Remediation Program. A Remedial Action Plan (RAP) has been reviewed and accepted as complete by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The RAP includes a combination of institutional controls and possible engineering controls. Land use controls would be a limitation on groundwater use and on a limited portion of the site, should it be used for residential purposes, the installation of a barrier to prevent exposure to potentially impacted soil.
