The State Corporation Commission scheduled a May 25 hearing to consider the competitive impact of Anthem’s proposal to acquire Cigna Corporation and its subsidiaries.
As part of the merger, the SCC said it will consider Anthem’s application to acquire Cigna Dental Health of Virginia, Inc.
The proposed $54.2 billion merger of Anthem and Cigna would create one of the nation’s largest health insurers by enrollment with 53 million members, according to figures Anthem supplied the agency.
The public hearing will begin at10 a.m., and take place in the commission’s second floor courtroom located in the Tyler Building at 1300 E. Main St., in downtown Richmond. Anyone wishing to comment at the hearing should arrive early and sign in with the SCC bailiff.
Written comments must be submitted by May 11, and should be sent to the Clerk of the State Corporation Commission, Document Control Center, P.O. Box 2118, Richmond, Virginia 23218-2118, and refer to case number INS-2015-00154.
