North Carolina-based Duck Donuts will open a shop on Electric Road later this year.

North Carolina-based Duck Donuts is coming to Roanoke County.

The doughnut shop signed a lease for a 1,700-square-foot space at Promenade Park Shopping Center on Electric Road, according to property owner Dennis Cronk.

The shopping center’s other tenants include Wine Gourmet, H&R Block and Sherwin-Williams.

Cronk said the build-out has not begun but he expects the doughnuts to start baking sometime this spring.

Duck Donuts has been looking for a spot in the Roanoke area for many months and is in the process of opening several stores across the southeast.

This is its first store in the Roanoke Valley. Its nearest location is in Charlottesville; it has about a dozen Virginia shops.

Duck Donuts opened its first store in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in 2007 followed shortly by a location in nearby Duck, according to its website. It serves made-to-order doughnuts with a variety of glazes and toppings.
