A sinkhole that is forming on South Washington Avenue in Pulaski has closed the road until further notice.

Pulaski police Capt. Anthony Meredith wrote in a news release that a main water line burst underneath the road, causing a collapse. The police department has established a detour around the collapsed roadway with the assistance of the Pulaski Fire Department and Public Works employees.

The damage is being assessed by town engineers.

No one was injured in the roadway collapse, Meredith said.

A concerned citizen, whose identity is unknown, came upon the collapse and blocked oncoming traffic while flagging down a Pulaski town worker, Meredith said.
