On Dec. 23, Santa took time away from the North Pole to come to Linden Green and the Y Thrift Shop to help distribute holiday meal kits for families, and special gifts for each child during Meals On Main. He was a tremendous help to our team of volunteers and enjoyed a last-minute check-in with local children before his big night of worldwide deliveries on Christmas Eve!
Special thanks to the Salvation Army for donating hams and turkeys, NRV Glean Team for potatoes, Next Door Bake Shop and Our Daily Bread for helping with the desserts, and to PetSmart for donating tons of plush toys for the kids!
Meals On Main operates five days a week at five different sites and provides five shelf-stable meals, snacks and milk to all children under 18 years old. Through our Meals on Main initiative, the YMCA at Virginia Tech hopes to help relieve some of the pressure faced by families facing food insecurity.
There are several ways the community can help:
We need brown paper shopping bags to contain the meals. If you have any, please drop them off at the YMCA Thrift Shop at 1000 N. Main St. in Blacksburg.
