Roanoke police identified the man found dead inside an apartment over the weekend as Luis Enrique Morales.

The medical examiner’s office has ruled 48-year-old Morales’ death as a homicide. His body was found in an apartment in the 300 block of Westside Boulevard Northwest on Saturday.

Officers went to the West Creek Manor apartment complex at 6:03 a.m. after Roanoke Fire-EMS crews extinguished a suspicious fire inside an apartment.

No arrests have been made. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Evidence found at the scene and the position of the body raised “suspicion to the cause of death of the victim,” according to a search warrant. The warrant did not elaborate further.

The medical examiner’s office referred questions Tuesday regarding Morales’ manner of death to Roanoke police. Police spokesman Scott Leamon said that information wasn’t being released “due to the ongoing investigation.”

Morales’ death is the city’s 12th homicide this year, the same number of homicides reported in both 2015 and 2016.

Police are asking the public for any information about Morales, including his acquaintances or recent activities. Anyone with information can call the police department’s criminal investigations unit at 853-5959.
