The Democratic candidate for the 8th District House of Delegates says he has dropped out of the race.
Dustin Wimbish will still appear as the Democrat candidate on ballots, but he filed paperwork in late September to withdraw from the election, he said during a phone call this week.
Wimbish, a father of eight, said politics wouldn’t be conducive to the family.
Del. Joe McNamara, R-Roanoke County, is the incumbent Republican running for a second two-year term.
McNamara is a public accountant, small business owner and father of five children, who previously served on the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors.
If elected to a second term, he wants to “refine the state government’s budget significantly,” McNamara said during a phone call Tuesday.
A $2.6 billion year-end surplus was reported by the state this summer. McNamara said he wants to explore how Virginia can give back to businesses and citizens hurting from economic impacts of the coronavirus.
He said he will also stand for Republican values, but prefers to lend his insight on financial issues regarding the state’s $71 billion budget.
