Todd DiStefano has been a nurse at Carilion Roanoke Memorial for 12 years. His nursing career started in the emergency room where he served our community in all aspects of healthcare. Todd is now a clinical administrator where he continuously goes above and beyond to ensure patient safety and satisfaction.

Todd, along with his colleagues, responds to all critical situations and continuously gives their best effort to resolve the most difficult conflicts and situations. He has been on the front line of providing care and life saving measures to COVID patients since day one of this pandemic. He is at bedsides providing advanced lifesaving interventions and comfort to the patients and their families.

Todd works 60 plus hours some weeks and always comes ready to provide the best care. He spends hours sometimes resolving patient complaints/conflicts. I will always remember a time Todd really helped me and made a forever impression on a patient that came in for chemotherapy. My patient felt defeated, overwhelmed and almost refused her chemo treatment. I saw Todd and asked for his help. Without hesitation, Todd came in the patient’s room, listened to our situation with patience and compassion and was able to provide the comfort and strength needed to get through another treatment.

The patient and family continued to ask about him throughout her treatment course giving him all the credit for her continued faith and courage to continue. His impact on her life will never be forgotten by her family. The days Todd isn’t directly at the bedside, he oversees the staffing aspect of being a clinical administrator. Healthcare members were out of work as a result of COVID. Staffing became critical and everyone was in a panic. Todd always managed to find a solution by providing reassurance and comfort to staff when we needed it the most and we really, really needed that during this pandemic. He makes a difference in every life he touches. I can’t think of a more deserving nurse than him. He is also a loving father of 4 beautiful kids and his patient’s often comment on the way his face lights up when he speaks about them.

Todd is who I would want at my bedside if I became critically ill. He brings so much comfort to everyone around him. He has made a true impact in our community and does so without expecting recognition. He is just truly amazing and I want him to know just how much of difference he makes every single day. He is one of the very best—Carilion is truly lucky to have him. I want him to know how much he is appreciated and he continues to improve the health of the community we serve.
