The Duchess of York is "over the moon" to be a grandmother.

Sarah Ferguson is already a grandmother to four-month-old August Brooksbank, the son of her daughter Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, and her older daughter Princess Beatrice is expecting her first child with her spouse Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, with the baby due later this year.

The 61-year-old British royal - who is the ex-wife of Prince Andrew - admits it's been a wonderful experience to have a grandchild and she can't wait to meet the new addition to her family.

In an interview with Express.co.uk, she said: "I'm over the moon to have become a grandmother, naturally."

Just as she is committed to her grandchildren, Sarah is committed to helping all young people across the world get a good education and that's why she set up her charity Children in Crisis and why she is now the Chair of International Montessori Ambassadors.

She said: "I believe very strongly that every child has a right to an education, and I won’t rest while one in five children in the world still isn’t in school.

"I have always believed in its power to transform children’s lives.

"That’s why I set up a foundation called Children in Crisis which went on to build schools in Liberia, Sierra Leone and other countries.

"That charity merged a few years ago with another one called Street Child which has carried on its work, and my new charity Sarah’s Trust has a strong focus on education."

Sarah is delighted to have partnered with the Montessori Group - an education method which was developed by Italian physician Maria Montessori with a focus on encouraging independence in children from a young age - because she saw the benefits of that type of schooling in her own daughter Eugenie.

The 31-year-old princess began her education in 1992 at a Montessori nursery in Windsor, England, which her cousin Zenouska Mowatt also attended.

Speaking about her experience of the Montessori system, Sarah said: "Eugenie started her education at a Montessori nursery in Windsor in 1992 and it gave her the very best start in life.

"It encouraged her natural curiosity and set her up for a love of learning that I’m delighted to say that she still has today."
